Are you tired of relying on large retail chains and supermarkets for your groceries? Are you passionate about feeding your family wholesome food and reducing waste? The Tauranga Community Co-op is a not-for-profit group of like-minded individuals who have come together to take control of our food sources and promote sustainability in our community.
At the New Zealand-based Tauranga Community Co-op, they've made it their mission to provide access to organic and locally sourced produce and groceries at affordable prices. They believe that everyone deserves access to high-quality, nutrient-rich food without breaking the bank. By buying in bulk and dividing the produce among the community, they’re able to offer prices that are often cheaper or similarly priced to what you would find at a supermarket. Once you've tasted the difference, you'll never want to go back to supermarket fare.
One of the unique aspects of their co-op is their commitment to supporting their members and their local produce. They encourage their members to contribute their backyard harvests, whether it's lemons, limes, mandarins, eggs, plums, persimmons, avocados, feijoas, grapes, blueberries, herbs, greens, and much more. This not only promotes sustainability but also allows members to showcase their talents and share the fruits of their labor with the community.
Every Saturday morning, Tauranga’s dedicated volunteer members pack all the orders at their co-op depot. It's a collaborative effort that brings everyone together and ensures that everyone gets their fair share, and is all part of the cooperative spirit and the beauty of building a resilient community.
Community is at the heart of what they do. They organize regular social events to explore local suppliers, attend workshops, and engage in exciting activities. Join the Tauranga Community Co-op and experience the joy of sustainable, wholesome living with like-minded people.
