Hello group!

I am in the wrong region but hope to be with the right group :) I am joining but I live at the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica - I run a small community foundation - The Blue Zone Community Foundation - and I deal with a few communities where people literally survive growing their basic grains, raise pigs, chicken, and catch salt and sweet water fish for their everyday meals.

These people that I am describing have land..., they just don't know how to exploit the richness of the land they possess, and usually end-up selling their land, then later spend their money, and they continue living in poverty but now without land...

So, I try to learn a little or a lot, to see if by chance I can learn something that I can pass on to these people and help them keep their land -…

Garden update-

The garden is absolutely thriving. He are some pictures of the growth. I have been using Tiger Bloom on the flowering plants and Grow Big on the vegging plants. Still hoping to get more growth out of the potted peppers I bought as starts- their growth seems stunted and they are already producing peppers on the Portugal Heat. I think the habaneros will continue to veg a bit before they start producing flowers.

Also, the black beans are almost ready, I might have just enough time to plant, grow and harvest another batch before our first hard frost.

I made my first pickles of the year. They taste delicious and are nice and crisp. If you’re interested ask and I’ll include the recipe in the comments

So far, deer have not returned, again if interested ask and I’ll explain what I think is working for us.

Thank…

Pest control-

they are doing more construction, building more homes and taking away more and more of the local deer natural habitat. As a result, this year, more than any previous, my garden has been under nightly attack from hungry deer. They haven’t devastated anything yet, but they have caused some setbacks. Anyone have any success keeping deer out of your garden. Mine is fenced off, but it’s only three feet high and they can reach right over it. So far they’ve gotten a couple of sunflowers, some cucumbers and a beautiful hanging flower basket. At this point, my wife has taken to getting hair from the brush and putting it around the fence.

A couple pictures of the damage-

@John Hinze You might want to try the old trick of putting out a couple wooden posts around the garden with a white hand-towel hanging from it to look like deer tail. Deers raise their tails (the underside of which is white) to signal danger to other deer; the deer see the white towel and think "danger"
